Outdoor Assets
Many of the PTSD patients that were going to benefit from the VR Therapy sessions had been part of the military in some way or another, so the assets I was assigned helped in the level designing process of creating military-oriented scenarios. As we aimed for an aesthetic akin to the game House Flipper, we had to be careful not to go over on poly-budget, so communications with the Art Lead on this matter were imperative to ensure we're staying in line.
By the time they laid off the graduating seniors, we still had not been assigned to texture any asset, so I textured it here to showcase how the models can be textured under different scenarios, between run-down and beaten, used and abused, and brand new. The modeling process involved either retopologizing bought assets or making assets from scratch with references that we gathered and got confirmation for. The texturing process involved hand-painting and heavy editing of pre-made materials, smart materials, custom brushes on Procreate for custom alphas, as well as other heavily tweaked effects, filters and generators.
Indoor Assets
Sometimes we would be assigned assets for locations considered more suitable to "civilians", so we would make indoor assets for these non-military scenarios, such as bars, restaurants, apartment rooms or kitchens, so we would use references of real-life appliances and furniture to make these.
